My own stash of fabrics in the house...
The full sized sheet I was going to cut up and mix with jean squares to make the quilt, was left uncut and made into a comforter with the cream fleece sheet as the back. Very Cozy!
The actual quilt ended up being an all denim special, with a red fleece back. I kept it stashy from top to bottom, meaning I bought nothing new for either of these projects, including, batting & backing.
Its so soft and inviting!
The red fleece on the back of the denim quilt is a red fleece throw we stored in the trunk of our car:)
Cutting all the denim was a chore... but using the old denim helped to clean out some of our closets! Another plus!

Don't I have the cutest little assistant? (my daughter's sweet baby) I loved finding her helping her Nana.

The denim quilt is tied, with red X's on the top and the string hanging down on the fleece side. I actually had to use pliers to pull the needle through all the layers on this quilt!
The binding is just the fleece back, folded over. I loved the existing black stitching & thought it would look great against the denim!
It's a casual picnic style quilt, which compared to some of the beautiful, sophisticated quilts born out of this challenge may seem plain & simple. However this is a quilt that will be used, and hopefully will become an icon for happy memories. I can't wait to take my patient & understanding husband on a picnic.
Now that the quilt is finished, I will have the time to do so! And it is a Friday Date night...Thanks to Eileen & Ulla for coming up with this challenge and hosting it for us all. My talented daughter, who also participated in this challenge was my inspiration. I can only hope to be like her when I grow up :) I guess I can thank her for getting me into this fun mess!

Oh what a CUTE picnic blanket! I love how you set that up with the basket.. hubby should surely love that too. Your quilt/comforter turned out really super. I bet too you had to use pliers. Been there!
Your new badge will be in your email shortly. And your denim quilt shines right up there with all the rest of them!
ooops.. but I can't seem to find your email. Can you send it to me?
That is a very inviting picture with the jeans/fleece quilt and the delicious treats in the basket! And the other throw has a feminine touch. Please send pictures to the Flickr group as well! - Daughters are great when they talk you into things like blogging or making a quilt from stash. (I have given Eileen your email address now for the badge)
I love your denim quilt!
Diane
oh how I wish that I could sew! Your quits are beautiful and you should be very proud of yourself. Your family will have nothing but warm toes this winter!(ok that was lame-sorry)
Thanks for stopping by my blog and saying such nice things! Please, stop by and say hello often, love to make new friends!
Well done! It is so beautiful and hard wearing. I don't envy you with the quilting though. I bet your hands ached. Well done on managing it.
Best Wishes,
Melanie
I love them both. You are so resourceful...m.
Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving a kind note. We are in MS so hopefully will not get too much of the hurricane. However, with that said, it makes me feel sorry for those that will. I am praying. I love your quilt!! May I ask what the size of your denim squares are? I love how everything came right out of your home. My father passed away three months ago and my step mom sent many shirts and jeans of his to make rag quilts out of. I am wearing one of his shirts right now! I will begin the cutting soon, just needed to see everything whole for a while.
Sincerely,
Tricia Anne
Please visit again!
Tricia Anne,
Thank YOU for the very nice comments. I cut each of the squares 7.5 inches. It seemed to work great in cutting out the pockets. I gave up after breaking too many (denim) needles in trying to use patches with zippers in them:) I understand about losing loved ones and wearing their clothes. I still wear two of my dads large shirts and he passed away 23 years ago at the age of 61. (Usually when I am painting or dyeing my hair:) I lost my darling mom in law last year and wear her anniversary ring each day.
For seeing a gorgeous quilt made out of shirts, Go to http://kotkarankki.blogspot.com/ and see the beautiful quilt Ulla made out of her husbands shirts. It is incredible! Or click on her Name, Ulla on my comments.
Good luck making quilts out of these wonderful memories!
So sorry about the loss of your Dad,
Blessings and Hugs,
Beth
Your quilt and comforter turned out great! They look really warm and cozy. Love the baby on the quilt--so cute!
I love that you used things from around your home to make that blanket. I also use blankets for the backing as much as possible. I just scored a beautiful velour queen sized blanket for $2 at a garage sale! I'm so excited to have that for future blanket backings!
That's a great rough-and-ready picnic quilt, for sure! I can see a lot of kid's enjoying picnics on it.

Your Summer Stash quilts are AWESOME! I admire your resourcefulness, I love the way you used the fleece blanket and kept the blanket stitching, what a great idea and I love the touch it adds. I have to say your cute little assistant, is a doll baby! How lucky for you to have so many treasures that her! I loved your comment about your daughter....sometimes I just hope I will grow up..LOL! And I too admire the women my daughters have become and wonder in awe how it happened!....Thanks for sharing
Tricia
Wow, I LOVE the denim quilt! It looks so adorable on a picnic and you are so talented!!! I wish I could make one like that!
Wow, that quilt looks so warm and cozy. It would make a great camping blanket. I should collect my sons old jeans. We can't donate them b/c the holes in the knees. This would be a great way to recycle them. Great idea! :-)
Thank you for stopping by to see me. So nice to meet you. I hope you'll come back often.

Oh what great quilts!!!And such a cute baby! Thanks so much for stopping by for a visit! I want to peek around your blog a little more...I love quilt's but have never just mastered the art...I am very envious of any one that has such an amazing skill! Jen R
I just had to leave another comment and tell you how much the comment you left on my blog made me smile and giggle. :) I really should put a disclaimer into the giveaways that says I'm NOT doing them to get people to come visit. I'm actually doing them because I want to share my creative work with others and not make them pay for it. Kinda strange, I know, but it's my way to help people smile during this weird economy we're in right now.
Hugs,
Cindy
You sure are a talented lady, Beth! I used to think I might like to quilt, but there's no way I would have ever had the patience or the time.
So exactly how many pairs of jeans did you actually use, do you know? Isn't your granddaughter darling!
Is that your garden in the background? It's absolutely beautiful! Chances are you may never have a garden that nice in a condo ; )
Oh, and in case you didn't know, all us ladies are coming over to share what's in the basket. hee hee
Thank you for the information on the quilt squares and also directing me to Ulla's quilt. It is beautiful! Yesterday my husband gave 3 pair of jeans to me, I felt like a he handed me the moon! :o) Thank you for sharing about the shirts that you also wear. If I am missing my Grandma (my kindred spirit) I sleep in her socks! :o)
Take care! Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne
Sharon, You make me smile!
Everyone can make the comforter! It has such simple instructions. My daughter and her friends made these simple quilts to ask boys out on a girls ask guys dances before. They probably made 2-3 in one evening!
I'd love all the blogging ladies to get together and have a party...But the Subway sandwich wouldn't go that far...LoL
Yes, it is one of the flower beds in the front. The condos we have been looking at are actually homes which are detached and each do have their own SMALL yard, so we could still garden or better we could just leave and have the association take care of them:) It took 5-6 pairs of jeans! Beth
Adorable quilt! My favorite part are the little X's on the front...what a cute touch! Thanks for visiting me too! :)
Carrie
i love that!! i wish i had one....
That's REALLY weird that you're getting email that is for me! So strange. I don't even see your email on any comments you've left recently so I don't know where they're picking it up. Just forward the email to rosehaven_cottage@yahoo.com and hopefully this is just a strange anomaly.
Hugs,
Cindy
Beth I absolutely LOVE that quilt! You did an amazing job on it. What a wonderful talent you have! Sewing is just something I have never had the patience for and I really admire those who can.
The picnic basket looks charming on it and I am sure your husband enjoyed it as well.
Have a fabulous Labor Day holiday!
Jen
I've made many quilts over the years. And they are all special to me. If there were a fire, I'd grab my pets, my quilts and my photos!
Brenda
What beautiful hands you have my dear. The quilt looks great too!
